Handmade Monday - A Monsoon fail

I took a rare day off the other week and went shopping with Little Miss Mack and my Mum.

We stopped outside Monsoon to look at their lovely vintage inspired tea dresses.  Don't thy look pretty?

Now look closely

Not so pretty..................Look at that hem!  Just run up on the machine and badly at that.  The thread is all chewed up and it's loopy and pulled.  And it was not just this one either.

Looking a little closer lots of the dresses were all made in this cheap and cheerful manner and many had terrible machine stitching.

I'd never dream of selling one of my creations with this kind of stitching and certainly not for £75!

I'm off to aid my vintage stash and find myself a tea-dress pattern, if Monsoon carry on producing dresses of this quality and retailing them at these prices, I will be laughing all the way to the bank when I release my range of well made one off pieces!

  2. Gosh, that's a price and a half for poor quality goods. I like having a look at the accessories in that shop. (just a look mind)

  3. It's always a big let down when things are badly stitched. Good luck with making some - I'm sure there's room in the market for them (especially well-made ones)!

  4. I know exactly what you mean. Monsoon has always been like this. When I was a teenager (about 14 years ago!!) my friend worked there and it was a well known secret among the staff that the quality of the clothes was appalling.

  7. Wow I would never think to look this closely, I've always assumed their clothes must be well made because of their price - i'lll be checking carefully from now on, thanks for the tip off! X
